Double double toil and trouble

In looking at local materials for markmaking I’ve also started making inks. The first is a green/blue copper made by dissolving pieces of found copper in vinegar and salt. I also have material collected to make ink from the cypress once I’ve got my hands on a cauldron. Speaking of cauldrons, the cypress tree does feel like a singular piece of what should be a witch’s forest. A forest from a German fairytale. One which the hero(es) must submerge themselves in before they emerge, changed. A symbol of the unconscious mind, the edges of known lands. (Jung)

It circles back around to where I started with this project – reading Schama’s Landscape and Memory. Looking at work by Kiefer and Richter. The darkness in landscape and it’s connection to our psyche and emotional state. We are represented in the landscape we tell our stories about and the landscapes live in us as well.
