Maybe each reiteration of work is a memory pinned like a butterfly on the tree, a point de capiton or ‘quilting point’ to hold in place the spinning, chaotic possibilities. To use a term from Lacanian psychoanalysis, they could be points de capiton, or ‘quilting points’, that provisionally pin down an otherwise chaotic whole.
