Missing person

Reading this book whilst thinking about how I can look at constructing an immersive installation. The book starts with a pale silhouette, a sense of loss. As I read, the novel meets points of my project, imprints, traces, memories. Modiano places characters in varying ambiences of light. They are shadowed, silhouetted, shrouded, “dim shape[s] obliterated by memory”; they are studied in the light and wondered about in the semi-darkness. The characters stoop in uncomfortable places, they appear and disappear in photographs, and the sands keep their footsteps for “only a few moments”.

I haven’t finished the book as yet.
