Forest for the trees

I’ve been working on time-based works in Premiere. Layering images and using much the same process as my research and my previous work. Building up layers, taking sections, reflecting them and playing them again. Shifting distance and working with traces that the layers leave.

I found a beautiful piece of music. Cardew’s The Great Learning, Paragraph 7. The structure of the work is the work. It feels cyclical with vocalists borrowing from each other and singing with the rhythm of their own breath. Jullien also spoke about this rhythm of breathing in relation to Chinese painting. Inhalation, exhalation (need to find the reference).
